1. Adumbrate: to foreshadow vaguely
 
2. Apotheosis: elevation to divine status
 
3. Ascetic: severe self-discipline
 
4. Bauble: something of no importance or worth
 
5. Beguile: to lead by deception
 
6. Burgeon: to send forth new growth/bloom/sprout
 
7. Complement: something that fills up, completes
 
8. Contumacious: stubbornly disobedient, rebellious
 
9. Curmudgeon: miser
 
10. Didactic: designed or intended to teach
 
11. Disingenuous: lacking candor, frankness. False appearance
 
12. Exculpate: to clear from fault
 
13. Faux pas: blunder
 
14. Fulminate: express protest
 
15. Fustian: strong cotton durable cloth
 
16. Hauteur: arrogance, haughtiness  
 
17. Inhibit: restrain
 
18. Jeremiad: long mournful complain
 
19. Opportunist: person who takes advantage of all his opportunities
